Dear Friends,
In 1977 a few civic minded individuals began the establishment of the Las Vegas Citizens’ Committee for Historic Preservation. They operated from their humble beginnings in a residence in west Las Veg as, New Mexico. The Interpretive Center/Officer is presently located at 116 Bridge Street, Las Vegas, New Mexico. Your are invited to help support this important effort that benefits us all so much. If you have not been in the Interpretive Center, let me tell you a few things about us. Our Mission is to promote the historic, economic, architectural, aesthetic and cul-tural values of Las Vegas and the area within its sphere of influence; and to celebrate the significant roles of the area during the historic Santa Fe Trail period and the Railroad era which followed. We collect and preserve historical records related to the las Vegas area. We cooperate with Historical Libraries through out the Southwest. We coordinate educational programs, presented by the National Park Service and others, that are significant to our area.
Since its founding the LVCCHP has become an important repository of the History of the Las Vegas. The holdings include; books, periodicals, photographs, pictures, artifacts, tapes/transcripts, exhibits, tourist information, resources for historic research, memoir and other memorabil-ia. Seeing a need to preserve this heritage in a way that would make it available to future generations, volunteers started the LVCCHP.
Today we are staffed by One (1) part-time employee and volunteers. The staff and friends of LVCCHP, look to you for help in sustaining this important undertaking. Friends have supported it from the beginning and still do.
So today as the LVCCHP continues to seek and preserve the heritage of the Las Vegas area, we ask for your help.
Please consider the Las Vegas Citizens’ Committee for Historic Preservation, a 501(c)3 non-profit Organization in your sharing of gifts and help us financially as we plan for the future.
Sincere thanks,
R.E. (Rudy) Laumbach
