Milnor (1826-1887) was born in Maryland and was of German immigrants, traveled to New Mexico via the Santa Fe Trail. He was a freighter and store owner in various New Mexico towns. His first wife Maria Quirina Archuleta died shortly after their first son was born. He then married Maria Candelaria Trujillo y Gomez in 1857, making Rociada their eventual home.
