May Hays, Mexican War Veteran and New Mexico Settler by Doyle Daves. May was a descendant of Daniel Boone and born in 1822 and raised in Missouri. Eventually making his way to New Mexico via the Santa Fe Trail, he became a merchant in Las Vegas. He married Juliana Montoya y Sanchez in 1888.
