Andreas and his wife Anna Koos were born in the early 1800s in Jagel, Duchy of Schleswig. Eventually, the family immigrated to the US in the 1850s and known as Lauenbachs, living in Iowa and eventually Andreas Detlef remained in New Mexico. By 1864, he had married Leonor Ebel of Swiss/New Mexican ancestry. Settling in Buena Vista in Mora County, the family name is prominent in northern New Mexico.
